From operational problem to working product.
The Mountain Club of South Africa, Johannesburg Section brings together a community around mountaineering, climbing, hiking and conservation. Its website needs to introduce the club to newcomers while helping members find properties, plan activities and manage their membership.
Challenge
The project extended well beyond a public website. Regional property guides, access information, club history, activities and news had to sit alongside prospective-member registration and protected member services. Existing WordPress content and membership records also needed a place in the new platform, with an editing workflow the club could continue to use.
Approach
We built a responsive Astro frontend around a WordPress content and membership backend. Landscape-led public pages lead into regional property directories and detailed access guides; the joining journey explains the club’s prospective-member process before collecting an application. Behind the login, React islands connect to authenticated APIs for profiles, membership cards, billing records and group membership. Shared session-refresh handling connects the member experience, while WordPress remains the editorial and administrative workspace.
Outcome
The delivered platform brings public discovery, club publishing and member administration into one connected system. Visitors can explore properties and activities, prospective members can register online, and existing members have a dedicated portal for their account and membership services.
